2026 Extraordinary Election set for City of Mandurah’s Town Ward

Residents are being encouraged to help shape Mandurah’s future by taking part in the upcoming Extraordinary Election, with opportunities to both nominate as a candidate and vote for a new Town Ward representative.

The Extraordinary Election will be held on 24 September to fill one vacancy in the Town Ward, which includes parts of Central Mandurah, Halls Head and Erskine.

Eligible Town Ward residents who wish to vote must be enrolled to vote and ensure their enrolment details are up to date by 5pm on 29 July. For Mandurah residents wishing to become an Elected Member, candidate nominations will open on 4 August and close at 4pm on 11 August. 

City of Mandurah Mayor Amber Kearns said the election was an important chance for Town Ward residents to directly impact everyday life in Mandurah. 

"Putting your hand up to represent your community is no small thing. It takes commitment, passion and a real drive to make a difference," Mayor Kearns said. 

"Mandurah is growing and evolving and we need people to step forward, get involved and share their ideas in order to be our best. 

“This is a unique opportunity to represent local voices and make a meaningful contribution to our community. 

"Whether you're thinking of standing as a candidate or casting your vote, I encourage everyone to take part in the election and have a say in where we’re heading." 

The Extraordinary Election will be conducted by the Western Australian Electoral Commission via postal voting. Key dates: 

• Electoral roll closes: 5pm, Wednesday 29 July 2026  
• Candidate nominations open: Tuesday 4 August 2026  
• Candidate nominations close: 4pm, Tuesday 11 August 2026 
• Election day: Thursday 24 September 2026
